Back-to-school preparation is about more than bags and uniforms. A clear pickup plan, familiar routines and knowing whom to ask for help can make the school day easier for everyone.
This practical checklist helps Australian families prepare. If a connected watch fits your child's needs and your school's rules, the K9 AI Kids Watch can be one part of that plan, not a replacement for it.
1. Agree on Travel and Pickup Arrangements
Talk through how your child will get to and from school, where they should wait and who will collect them. Practise unfamiliar routes together and explain what to do if transport is delayed or plans change.
Make sure the school has current contact details and knows your approved pickup arrangements. A watch does not determine whether a child is ready to travel independently.
2. Check Your School's Device Policy
Ask whether connected watches are permitted and when they may be used. Do not assume that a smartwatch is allowed simply because it is not a smartphone.
The K9's Class Mode disables calls and games during configured periods, with up to four periods available. Location remains active, subject to power and connectivity. Do not assume that SOS calling overrides Class Mode; plan communication around school rules and test your chosen setup.
3. Set Up a Communication Routine
Agree on when your child should check in, whom they should contact and what to do if nobody answers. At school, they should know which teacher or staff member to approach when they need help.
The K9 supports up to 15 approved contacts, managed through the LAGENIO parent app. It offers voice calls, messaging, voice chat and video calls, with a 5-minute video-call limit by design.
Although it has no social media or open internet access, it includes AI learning features and three built-in games. It is not distraction-free, so clear usage rules still matter.
4. Practise Your Family's Help Plan
Explain what your child should do if they miss a bus, cannot find their pickup adult or need urgent help. Include a backup plan that does not depend on a device.
On the K9, holding the function button for 5 seconds activates SOS calling to up to three configured emergency contacts. The watch calls them in sequence, with up to two attempts per contact until answered. Let those adults know before arranging a supervised test.
Calls require power, working voice service and mobile coverage, and depend on someone being available to answer. SOS calling does not replace contacting emergency services when urgent assistance is needed.
5. Use Location Tools with Realistic Expectations
The K9 provides app-based location checking, location history and Safe Zone entry or exit notifications. These can offer additional context alongside agreed check-ins.
Location accuracy and availability depend on the positioning method, surroundings and network conditions. Do not expect an exact, continuously moving position or guaranteed immediate notifications. A map marker is not proof of a child's safety, and the watch cannot provide a new location when switched off or without a network connection.
6. Check Power, Mobile Service and Settings
The K9 requires an active Nano SIM plan with voice and data. Activate a new SIM before inserting it and check compatibility and coverage for the places your child will use the watch. There is no ongoing app subscription, but SIM service is an ongoing cost.
Install LAGENIO, bind the watch, check contact numbers and test calling and location checking. Australian and New Zealand customers must select Europe as the account region during registration.
Build charging into your routine. The reference battery life is approximately 24–36 hours under normal use, with 2–3 hours to charge; actual runtime varies with usage, settings and signal conditions.
7. Plan for Everyday Care
Check that the watch fits comfortably and teach your child how to look after it. Its IP68 water resistance is intended for everyday splashes, not swimming or submersion. Water resistance does not mean a device is drop-proof or kid-proof.
